There’s also a women’s-specific version of the Datum, as well as a frameset so you can build your own. Genesis produces bikes for all cycling disciplines, including road, mountain, cyclocross, gravel/adventure and commuting. Rob Hayles is another former racer, of course – a double world champion and three-time Olympic medallist on the track, and a national champion on the road. In addition, the relatively narrow tires of the Huffy Marker Women’s Mountain Bike 26×2.13″ performed better on flat trails, but were more difficult to control on wet, muddy terrain. But the external cable routing makes it hard for me to get interested, it looks more cluttered. However, the Genesis 26″ V2100 Mountain Bike has an internal cable routing design, which makes the overall frame look neater and prevents damage to the control cables.
Some adventures are about taking your time and drinking in your surroundings, others are about getting there fast. This bike is designed for lightweight bike-packing, able to tackle ultra-distances on mixed terrain. Essentially an aluminium version of the Croix de Fer, the CDA features a similar plethora of mounts and wide clearances but comes in at a significantly lower price. Part of this is down genesis bike to the different frame material, but cheaper components are also a factor. Other bikes might have the specificity to perform better in a single one of these uses, but very few bikes would be able to perform as well as the Croix de Fer in all of them. It is the combination of a vast array of mounts, a robust steel frame and wide tyre clearances that allow this bike to be such a jack of all trades.
We’ve got to say, though, that we’ve never seen anything like the head tube on Adam Blythe’s bike. We showed you 3T’s Strada ICR a couple of weeks ago, with a ‘nose’ extending forwards at the front of the head tube. 3T’s goal was to hide the cables internally while keeping the head tube narrow and aerodynamically efficient rather than wide and bulky.

The Genesis Day One was the name of the company’s first flat-bar road bike, which was introduced in 2001. An avid cyclist, Ignaz Schwinn met Adolf Arnold in Chicago in the 1890s while working as a machinist. After working in numerous genesis bike factories for a few years, the pair decided to start their own bike company. Genesis invented gravel bikes, and the Vin Cox set a Guinness World Record for the fastest bike around the world. Despite designing all of our bikes in-house in Milton Keynes, we’re lucky to be able to produce them in world-class factories in Vietnam and Indonesia.
Genesis makes road, mountain, gravel, adventure, and commuter bikes. Aside from steel, Genesis bikes come in a number of materials. The wheelset is lightweight with an internal rim width of 19mm that will take good sized rubber which means you could add some float to the ride with some high volume tyres.
Our bikes are designed and built in Milton Keynes, but we’re willing to outsource production to Vietnam and Indonesia. Our frames are hand-assembled in small quantities before being stored. The Core range is based around a 6061 aluminium tube set that is butted where needed with some gentle manipulation to ovalise the down tube as it meets the seat tube at the bottom bracket shell.

But there is clearance for up to 38c, so if the conditions require it, this bike is able to handle the rougher stuff. Just because a bike is designed for one specific purpose doesn’t mean it is limited to that purpose. Adventure bikes are very versatile and can be put to a multitude of uses. Not quite mainstream, yet still hugely popular, Genesis Bikes are a British brand loved by steel-aficionados and adventurers alike.
