I felt the most comfortable in this tent in the hot summer days, compared to my other 10-person tents. But when it’s raining, the rainfly provides very little rain protection, because it’s quite small (and its main purpose is coleman ice chest to protect only the ceiling mesh). On top of that, the tent body slants outwards a bit, so the water drips onto the window or door mesh directly. Introduced in 2014 Coleman’s Pop up Tent is available in two different sizes.
“I feel on the verge of hyperventilating,” my wife said. I know I’m out of the warranty period, but I don’t know if this tent is a lemon, or if its counterfeit, or if Coleman products are expected to have these sorts of problems. I am going to go camping again this summer, and I’d like to know if anyone has ideas whats up with this tent and if I can fix it.
All in all, there are many great points in its design but there are also downsides, so choose carefully. Check also their 10-person version with dark rest design. I own a somewhat embarrassingly large collection of tents for camping—some from my backpacking days, while some are from when I switched to family car camping. However, I wouldn’t say that Coleman has the best instant tent mechanism, at least for this tent. Sometimes, one of the elbow joints of the poles would jam and won’t prop up properly, and I’d have to fold it back up and try to prop it back up again. After about 3 hours of light rain, I noticed that no water seeped through the bathtub flooring, and it was still dry, which was great.
Another worth taking a look at is the Carlsbad Fast Pitch 6 similar to the evanston it has a screened area and is advertised as a fast pitch tent. Starting of with the cheapest of all, we find the Kids Wonder Lake Like suggested in the name it is designed primarily for children. In the “picture below” you can see it is not a toy tent, it can be used outside just like any other Coleman tent and comes with a half fly.
This Coleman 10-Person Instant Tent has a peak height of 73.5 inches, and I can reach the top of the tent very easily by just stretching my arm out. Have used it roughly once each year and I use it by myself or with only one other person, so not under heavy repeated use. If you want it to last, best not to force anything and follow the instructions on setup. At the top center hub, I got in a hurry and erected the legs too soon in the wrong order which caused the hub to twist breaking one hub link and twisted one D leg tube internally. An eBay source had some parts but was out of stock on the broken link, perhaps permanently out of stock.
You could give this tent a knock for its weight, coming in at 18.2 lbs, and a ding for the bag size — packing this one back up did take a little extra smushing, coleman screen tent but it wasn’t too bad. The main appeal of the Coleman Instant 6 is detailed in its name. Storing the tent properly is essential for its longevity.
But you have here what they describe as Weather Tec patented system which utilizes welded floors. Yet another better option is to use bunk beds, at least for kids; the walls are steep here and the tent is so high, so it is easy to put such bunk cots inside. This is a very stable freestanding structure which you can pitch on any terrain, literally, and you can move it around when it is set up. So you do not have to stake it out, but stakes and guylines are included and do not miss doing this whenever possible.
