Schwinn 26″ E-Mendocino Electric Bike Bikes

On my older e-bike (also a Schwinn) I get about the same 20 miles of range at level 5, but I also get closer to 40 miles at level 3. One thing I miss from previous e-bikes I’ve had was a range estimator that gave you an idea as to how much further you could ride at your present power level under present conditions. Such a feature is fairly inaccurate all things considered, but some estimate is better than no estimate. The Coston e-bike is controlled with a handlebar-mounted LED panel with three buttons on the side.

Electric bikes are very similar to analog bikes – with a few key extras of course! Scroll through the carousel to learn about the unique schwinn beach cruiser features of our e-bikes. Easily recharge in as little as 4 hours with a standard household outlet and the included charging cable.

It’s the large battery with a five-hour recharge time that separates the Coston DX from the others. Each Schwinn electric bike has a powerful motor, pedal-assist, and throttle modes to choose from, and an extended range of at least 35 miles. The 250 watt motor can’t push much up bigger hills but it’s a lovely help when you’re pedalling. I spend most of my time on dirt roads in assist level 2 in 2nd or 3rd gear. For the big hills it was a quick shift to the nice, easy first gear.

As an avid cyclist who commuted to and from the train for years in the past, I see e-bikes as a very reasonable step forward in commuting. You also get two different frame sizes to choose from, which is a big upgrade over the single one-size-fits-all frames that many e-bike companies still offer. Speaking of which, check out my video below to see the bike’s performance and features in action, including those cool frame lights. In general, if purchased on the Schwinn website, your new bike will be shipped within hours of being ordered and should arrive within 7-10 days.

The bike should have an estimated range of 18 miles without pedalling. While it could use a little boost to a 500 watt motor to help on the hills, the smaller motor keeps the price lower. If you’re looking for a solid ebike to help you get around on-road and off, definitely check out the Schwinn Marshall. Turning takes a little bit to get used to as it is a little more top-heavy than a regular bike with the battery. The up and down are mostly for adjusting the pedal assist levels up and down. The front and rear lights are attached to the fenders while the bottom lights are part of the battery itself.

It was a medium sized frame and I am ~5’9″ tall weighing about 135 lbs. In order to get some up-close motor shots, I mounted one of my cameras to the frame. Aside from the higher capacity battery and more powerful motor, the bikes were very similar and both priced affordably, but not as cheap as off-brand products. All that, plus the six-pound Toshiba battery housed behind the seat, makes the bike quite heavy, and, in some ways, a bit clunky feeling to move around when you’re not riding it.

We recommend looking into not only a brand’s testing options but also its return policy, as you want to make sure it’s also eligible to be sent back should it not fit. Schwinn advertises the Tailwind as being rechargeable in just half an hour. However, because of the dedicated external charger, you will either need to bring the bike back home or bring the charger with you to top up the schwinn beach cruiser battery. We rode the Tailwind for an hour without discharging the battery completely. We tried the Tailwind up a particularly challenging hill, putting it in its lowest gear and putting the electric assist on maximum. Even with the bike assisting as best it could, climbing the hill required a lot of physical exertion, although it would have been harder without the electric motor.
