Giant is the largest manufacturer of quality bicycles in the world. What they owned in “build quality” they lacked in brand connectivity. Genesis was hired to help create a brand visual language to help tie the products into a cohesive whole in the global marketplace. Finding the center of the brand design was based on our uncovering the “truth in materials” position. Genesis created the personalities and graphics for bikes built for the world’s diverse cultures.
You can see our work for Giant in the grueling Tour de France, on Tokyo commuter streets, and in a garage much like your own. About three years ago, they brought in e-bikes, which added a new avenue of bicycle access for someone who might need a pedal assist from an electric motor. The service manager, Jimmy Madden, says it has been wonderful to learn about e-bikes since it gets even more family members out on the trail who might otherwise stay home.
Almost the antithesis of the Day One, the Flyer is sublime in its simplicity. It employs easily adjustable rim brakes, a single 42×17 gear, and it has mudguards to keep the spray off. Although the frame is steel, it’s relatively lightweight with a carbon fork and no excess components weighing it down. This is a bike that will zip around town without a second thought. The angles are steep, the front end is low and there aren’t mudguard or pannier mounts.

If you’re in the market for a bike, the lines of bikes Genesis carries offers something for everyone, no matter your level, size, or age. The sales crew is always there with a smile to fit each customer and offer test rides in the parking lot – with a helmet fitting too, of course. The maximum tyre size on bike is 28c, typical for rim brake set ups but relatively narrow for a bike with discs. But for races that are solely on roads, this should be more than adequate. The steel tubes of these endurance bikes, with their ability to dampen the road buzz, make them perfectly suited to long days out in the saddle.
These are the dedicated carbon race bikes, as ridden by the (now disbanded) UCI continental team Madison Genesis. The frame has internally routed cables for better aerodynamics and a wide section down tube for better torsional stiffness. Despite being already expansive, the Genesis Bikes brand continues to grow, with the British company striking out even further to the gravel/adventure cross market. Packaging SystemGenesis created a holistic packaging system that was impactful and highlighted specific features across a product offering that reached almost 3000 SKU’s. Erin says as they look forward to the next season, the store will be adding longer adventure touring rides and more varied locations, such as the Lehigh Gorge State Park part of the D&L and the Columbia Trail in Highbridge, NJ. The Datum comes with 32c tyres, which is a bit closer to the ‘road’ end of the spectrum.
Pannier and mudguard mounts are also present on these frames, adding to their versatility. The external cable routing and threaded bottom brackets are also features that will be well apricated by home mechanics. A solid steel range and a smattering of aluminium and carbon models brings the brand bang up to date. Versatility still pervades the frame, with downtube bottle bosses and mounts for a rear rack and mudguards. Although this bike can take on the commuting duties or a bit of cycle-touring, it is more suited to lively riding in the woods and on bridleways. A rim brake version is available in addition to the disc option and both come with Shimano Ultegra 2×11 groupsets.
