That being said, all you’d have to do is fill the Trailmate Cooler with ice, drinks and food and you’re ready to enjoy 4 days of outdoor fun if not more depending on the weather and other factors. These two materials won’t rust, break or fail apart; they’re meant to hold the coolers’ parts together regardless of the surrounding environment for a cooler with a longer life span than expected. And to make this cooler even tougher, Igloo added marine grade aluminum construction and stainless steel to its overall built for maximum durability and functionality. That said, the Trailmate is 34.59″ x 19.7″ x 23.61″ (LxWxH) and that’s not small at all. Actually, you’ll usually end up needing a second hand to help you put the cooler in your car’s or van’s trunk when it’s fully loaded. One you get that covered, you’ll only have to drag it around since it’s wheeled.
Some may find this price point to be steep, but a comparison of a similar sized roto molded cooler will reveal the value. For example, the Yeti 75 is nearly $200 more expensive and does not have wheels nor the added features as outlined above. It goes without saying that the Trailmate is the perfect beach, tailgating or surf fishing cooler capable of handling rugged terrain at a reasonable price.
On various events, we found our hand looking for a front handle that doesn’t exist, just to lock onto the lower part of the little white box settled on the front. Tragically, that little white box slides up and off the cooler when you apply pressure — not an incredible handle, so the withdrawn streetcar arm should do. Our most un-most loved angle as far as ease of use is the channel viewed as in this cooler. However it has a wide channel to assist with exhausting it of meltwater, within the channel likewise is transformed into a projecting passage into the inside by a white plastic cylinder. Why this is a thing, we don’t know, as it made the Trailmate the most un-helpful for discharging by means of channel fitting of any model we tried. With no hooks to play with, the Trailmate is genuinely simple to open when you need a portion of its items.
You will find plenty of storage space inside the insulated area but that is only the beginning. The igloo soft cooler also comes with additional storage for your non-chilled items. While we always prefer more size options, if we had to choose just one size, a 70-quart is pretty good. It is large enough to fit all of the food and drinks for a decent-sized group while still not being overly large to the point that it is a challenge to transport and store. But for someone after the maximum storage space, the 70-quart model may prove to be a bit limited. This is great, so everyone has easy access to their cold beverage of choice.

Why we didn’t quite reach the 4-day mark that Igloo suggested, it wasn’t far off. Most people aren’t going to use this much ice as it would take up way too much valuable storage volume. And to provide additional support, there are a couple of aluminum stands (with equally aggressive grip) on the front of the cooler. These provide additional stability when the cooler is laid flat.

The same mounting bracket that is used for the removable rod holders can be used with removable Igloo cup holders. Given that it has the name Trailmate I knew it had to go on a trail to truly earn it’s name. Though at first glance the Trailmate looks like a great deal, we’re not so sure. Its wide wheels and high clearance help it navigate a variety of challenging terrain, but the performance of this cooler in insulation and particularly its lackluster durability leaves us wanting more. But if wheels and features are what you’re after and a budget is what you’re on, the Igloo might be the right fit for your life. With no latches to mess with, the Trailmate is fairly easy to open when you want some of its contents.
