Deep-pile carpet proved to be an even bigger problem because the debris got stuck deep in the fibers. Canister vacs tend to have a lot of pieces, but we were impressed with how easily we were able to move about with this Shark model. Kibble was cleared from hard surfaces in a flash, but it struggled to clean up all of the stuff that got embedded in the deep-pile carpet.
While we can’t include them all in this article, the following are some notable models that didn’t quite make our best-of cut. The cord is also longer than the other upright picks on this list, at 30 feet. This length means I can pick one outlet and almost clean an entire floor of my split-level home, or make it up and down a flight of stairs, without having to switch outlets. If I could change anything about this machine, I’d make the handle adjustable, or just a bit shorter, since I’m 5-foot-4 and it feels a bit cumbersome to me at times.
A spherical wheel on the cleaner head makes maneuvering the Outsize a breeze. Also, the trigger power button design requires you to keep your finger on the power button to keep it running, limiting how you can hold the vacuum. The Shark Stratos relies on a broad “trap door” mechanism for emptying the dust bin. If not, it’s hard to avoid making a mess and potentially coming in contact with the debris.
Accessories – To get the most bang for your buck, and the most use out of your vacuum, look for a model that comes complete with accessories, including various dusting brushes, crevice tools, pet turbine tool and more. Weight – The larger the weight of your cordless shark stick vacuum vacuum, the more force is required to push and pull the vacuum while cleaning – so, look for as lightweight a model as possible. Not only is this clever, life-simplifying vacuum from Tineco a joy to look at (with its matte white detailing), the power is a dream.
We rated each design on how durable it is, as well as simplicity of emptying, how loud it is during use and how long the battery lasts – if it has one. Robot vacuums are good for regular cleans, however with suction that can’t match the best cordless vacuums they’re not suitable for a deep clean, and struggle to suck up dust embedded in carpets. It’s very handy, although it’s clearly not designed for anything more ambitious. Though on the expensive side, Dyson’s most powerful vacuum to date does a superb job of sucking up dust and debris, and its laser light makes it easy to ensure you don’t miss any important bits. And because we’ve used them for long stretches of real-world cleaning we can tell you whether they need too-frequent trips to the trash or whether the manufacturer’s battery life claims are overly optimistic.
