The Dyson v11 has an auto sense feature that detects the type of surface it cleans and increases or decreases the suction accordingly so no toggling to different settings was needed. It comes with a great range of attachments including an upholstery nozzle, crevice nozzle, dusting brush and floorhead with light. An extra battery is also included, which doubles the cleaning time to an incredibly impressive 120 minutes. The Quick comes with three detachable heads for the floor and carpet, upholstery and crevices and a power boost for the more trying messes. The pack does only come with one battery, which takes two and a half hours to fully charge and only lasts between 14 and 60 minutes, depending on the mode. That being said, during my testing, I found the standard mode picked up everything I needed it to on carpet, so the battery life will usually be nearer to the 60 minutes.
Its stellar cleaning performance, light weight and easy-to-use features and attachments all make it a standout. We’re not fans of having to wall-mount stick vacuums to get them to stand on their own, but we’re willing to overlook that for how well the Dyson cleans and all the other plusses it offers. We know from experience that buying the best vacuum cleaner is a confusing proposition no matter what brands or models you are considering. When we evaluate a stick or any vacuum, we base our tests on ASTM International standard test methods. A major part of Good Housekeeping’s role on this committee is to make sure these standards are relevant to how everyday consumers actually use vacuum cleaners and their experiences with them. With high and low power modes, the Vactidy did a great job cleaning bare floors. And while it did well picking up pet hair from carpet, some hair clung to the nozzle and had to be removed by hand. Anything oversized or slightly sticky runs the risk of gumming up the works. If any part of the vacuum cleaner is clogged up, the machine loses suction power.
Overall, we think it’s a versatile supplementary cleaning tool for small homes or apartments. The battery-powered model has an impressive runtime of 50 minutes, shark stick vacuum and in our testing, we found that it could often last more than an hour without losing suction. Its main cleaner head has a self-cleaning brushroll that prevents pet hair from getting tangled around it, and the vacuum also comes with a crevice tool and pet multi-tool that’s ideal for cleaning upholstery.
(And in my house, hay.) Tangled-up brushes don’t just affect cleaning performance but also reduce battery life. “A brush clogged with hair means the motor is going to draw a lot more juice out of the battery and really reduce the amount of time that you can get out of the vacuum,” Gasko explained. The DS4095’s ability to effectively pick up fur and debris nearly matches that of the Dyson V12 Detect Slim. You can easily remove its single-roller brush bar (no tools required) to clear out tangled hair, and the brush bar is surprisingly versatile, working as well on rugs as on bare floors. We plan to test several new cordless stick vacuums soon and will share our findings.
To find the best Shark vacuums for pet hair, we tested almost 30 models in our Des Moines, Iowa testing lab. From there we can calculate the percentage of dirt and debris pickup for every run and the average amount of soil a vacuum manages to remove.
