The one thing the Yeti really has over the Ozark Trail mug, in terms of performance, is the slider on the lid. These tests proved to us that not only do both the Yeti and the Ozark Trail mugs do an incredible job at insulating cold drinks, but they perform nearly identically. The Yeti is also dishwasher safe, but you should never clean it with bleach or put it in the microwave or freezer. It comes in a few fun colors and there’s also a five year warranty that comes with every Yeti purchase. For my second test, I decided to focus on the Ozark Trail tumbler and see how long it could keep the flavor of a carbonated beverage before it became watered down. To do this, I filled the it with ice and Coke one night before bedtime.
The coolers remained in the same location for the duration of the 6 day test, only being opened to snap daily progress pictures. The coolers in competition were the Ozark Trail 45QT Rolling ozark trail canopy Thermocooler, The Pelican 45QW Elite Wheeled Cooler, and the Yeti Tundra Haul. I chose these coolers because they were the closest among the brands when it came to internal storage.
Even though the tumblers had slightly different initial temperatures, it took both cups approximately 45 minutes to raise 1°F. You might have to wait closer to an hour for your hot drink to actually be drinkable (around 135°F). The water in the Yeti tumbler did cool down slightly slower than the Ozark Trail one, but not enough to cause a significant difference in experience between the two.
You can see in the image below that the thermos on the left has the hotter water, however the heat signature on both Tumblers is only present inside the Tumbler. You will be able to work certain ozark trail canopy brands and types of straws in it but the lids’ designs aren’t meant for straws as they aren’t circular. These lids are designed to sip out of, not to use with a disposable or reusable straw.
It is made with stainless steel with vacuum-insulated walls designed for regulating ambient liquid temperature. With a price point below $10, you are able to get 4 of the 32oz Ozark Trail Tumblers for a price that is comparable to 1 of the competitions 30oz tumblers, which to me is a huge win. I imagine this is because of the vacuum seal; however, the directions for the Yeti tumblers say they can be put in the dishwasher, including the lid.
With a hard plastic latch, you run the risk of brushing by the cooler and hitting your shin, which I have done and is awful. One of my favorite features though is the rubber wheels vs. the hard plastic wheels on the Pelican and Yeti. Not only will the rubber allow for a slightly smoother roll when you are pull this cooler along, but it will also be quieter. You won’t wake the neighbors up when you are pulling this down your dock. Rounding out the exterior is a lid that features 4 cup holders and inch notches for measuring your catch of the day.
One of the first things to note about it’s design is that it has a larger drainage hole and a tethered drain cap, which is a nice feature. I have lost a couple of drain caps in my day which makes the cooler unusable until a replacement arrives. In a sheer stroke of luck for this test, we are having a very aggressive heatwave in Southeast Michigan with temperatures around the 90’s during the day and staying in the 70’s overnight.
Unfortunately, like most all water bottles and tumblers, they are made in China. While it cannot be denied that the Yeti Tumbler is a great tumbler for keeping beverages cold or hot for an extended period, it is also hard to deny that it is pricey. Finally, I added the vinyl to a piece of transfer tape to make adding the design to my tumbler MUCH easier. We are committed to finding, researching, and recommending the best products. The Yeti coffee mug has an easy-to-use handle much like a coffee cup does. These come in various sizes, including 10 oz, 14 oz, and 24 oz. As such, you’d rather not use both the tumblers as replacement for your stainless steel insulated water bottle. This 32 oz ozark trail chair is in my opinion the most versatile of the bunch. One of the main reasons that you are filling a thermos is to enjoy your beverage at the desired temperature over extended periods of time.
