The drawbacks here are weight and size because the motor relies on big magnets inside to create power. Also, when coasting or pedaling without assist the magnets may create some drag vs. a geared motor with a freewheeling mechanism. It also does not take advantage of regenerative braking which some other gearless systems offer but overall it’s durable and gets the job done.

Compact folding design with removable battery, comfortable suspension fork and seat post shock… With massive tours becoming more commonplace, we introduce the Tour de Fer – and for more adventurous missions, the Longitude – a rigid 29er mountain bike with all the required mounts and clearance for 2.5-inch tyres. Essentially an aluminium version of the Croix de Fer, the CDA features a similar plethora of mounts and wide clearances but comes in at a significantly lower price.
