When riding with level 5 assistance my pedals were free-spinning most of the time even on the highest gear. The motion of the pedal is necessary to engage the motor in pedal-assist mode, but I rarely felt like I was assisting the motor except on the steepest hills and that was only when I was in the highest gear. Of course, the premier feature of this e-bike is the “e” part.
But it’s one of the least expensive ones you can buy from a bike company. Respectfully, most of the e-bikes you find online come from companies with alphabet-soup for names that may sell just as many portable batteries as they do e-bikes. Upgrading to a larger capacity battery will allow you cover greater distances and/or ride for a longer period before needing to recharge. There I could add mongoose excursion some pedal effort without getting tired, leaving me feeling satisfied with my exercise level but not so overly exerted that I couldn’t enjoy the beautiful trails around me. I tested a couple Schwinn e-bikes from the demo stable at the end of the Square 2 Square ride in Bentonville recently. On flat roads, shifting gears will allow you to put more or less effort into your ride as you please, allowing for a lot of levity in the experience. We didn’t clock our speeds, but the bike can supposedly top about 15 miles per hour on flat ground with the pedal-assist on, and that sounds about right to us. We have friends who told us about a couple they met that had a pair of folding electric bikes from Lectric. My wife did some research, read the reviews, and ordered one — in bright blue, my favorite color. It arrived a week later and after we got it assembled and charged up, I took it for a ride.
Fundamentally, this bike seems like a bunch of parts bolted and ziptied (yes… literally ziptied) onto an otherwise standard Schwinn city bike frame. Of course, as some of my regular readers might know, I bought one. No owners manual so this video has helped a lot with the battery removal trick etc (since my only other experience is a Raleigh retro eglide). 6-speed twist shifter offers smooth, reliable gear changes.
I define purpose-built as a frame that was designed specifically to integrate with an electric drive system. The cadence sensor is also tucked inside the chainring on the right side and the cables for it are tucked in very nicely. For now, however, Class 3 e-bikes hit the highest regulated speed. The whole package is aesthetically really old-timey looking — which will not please everybody, though we find it to be really quite charming. It’s surprisingly elegant, and though one friend described it as “goofy” looking, we think that its look suits the intended rider — but more on that below. Go on a ride around the neighborhood today, a bike path tomorrow, and that new trail on the weekend – a hybrid bike can do it all. Enjoy mongoose excursion a sporty yet comfortable ride on or off road. If you need to bring the pack inside to charge, you’ll love this setup. It slides right out, and has a nice handle to carry it.
