To me, worrying about the temperature of the drinks I have on my boat is the absolute last thing I want to be thinking about when I am heading out on the water. To that end, I thought I would put a couple of the most common rotomolded coolers up against what is arguably the most budget friendly option on the market, the Ozark Trail 45QT Rolling Thermocooler. Our sister site Alloutdoor.com recently reviewed a hiking backpack sold by Ozark Trail that had an overall stellar performance and it triggered a question among our staff.
Since they launched, they have carved out an incredible market share delivering products across ozark trail chair the board from coolers to dog bowls. While they have solidified their place as a brand, they have not gone beyond some of their original design features which has allowed competition to come in and provide a few more core offerings. Cooler’s have become somewhat of a status symbol in the outdoors and many equate the bigger brands with better quality. No, that is not always the case and any outdoorsmen, gear junkie, or general abuser of products will tell you the same thing.
When purchasing from Walmart’s website, you have the option of selecting one of 4 colors; black, mint, silver, or tan. Another great thing that Walmart provides is the ability to purchase the 32oz Ozark Trail Tumbler in quantities of 1, 2, 4, or 6. In our series to determine if value brand canopy tents are worth the potential savings over feature-rich tents from better-known brands, we put the two types of tents through a series of reviews. After reviewing the Ozark Trail 10×10 instant shelter we couldn’t leave out its closest competition, the Z-Shade tent. Z-Shade has been a staple in manufacturing instant canopies in a variety of sizes and colors since 2000. The brand is wholly owned by large conglomerate Activa Leisure Group who has been in the umbrella and shade business since 1842, so it’s safe to say they know a thing or two about outdoor canopies.
When you are out on the water, people often sneak over to grab something from the cooler and may not latch it back up. With a hard plastic latch, you run the risk of brushing by the cooler and hitting your shin, which I have done and is awful. One of my favorite features though is the rubber wheels vs. the hard plastic wheels on the Pelican and Yeti. Not only will the rubber allow for a slightly smoother roll when you are pull this cooler along, but it will also be quieter. Rounding out the exterior is a lid that features 4 cup holders and inch notches for measuring your catch of the day.
This 10’x10′ canopy pops up easily, and will keep sun burn and overheating at bay. I tested the temperature using a Weber meat thermometer which was $15 off the shelf. I used plain water which I boiled to temperature and placed inside each of the Tumblers and immediately closed with the provided lids. With a price point below $10, you are able to get 4 of the 32oz Ozark Trail Tumblers for a price that is comparable to 1 of the competitions 30oz tumblers, which to me is a huge win. This 32 oz Ozark Trail Tumbler is in my opinion the most versatile of the bunch.
