With a few upgrades, you can confidently ride almost any terrain and the pedal assist adds just enough boost to get you up the annoyingly difficult uphills without making you feel like you’re riding an overpowered dirt bike. A fully kent electric bike fitted service centre supports our commitment to your safe cycling where all bikes (not just electric bikes) can be serviced, repaired and overhauled. A collection and delivery can be arranged with prior notice as can a loan bike.
I have a Truckrun motor on my daily rider city e-bike, and it works wonderfully. Mid-drive motors, unlike hub motors, actually power the bike through the standard gears on a bicycle. Hub motors, on the other hand, are single-speed drivetrains that bypass the gears and chain altogether, allowing them to be controlled quite simply as there are no gears to worry about. This is a gross oversimplification, but you can kind of think about it like automatic versus manual transmission cars, at least in terms of simplicity and ease of learning or use for the driver. Kent’s Electric Cruiser has plenty of limitations, but it’s doubtful the people buying this bike will care too much.
When I say mountain bikes, I really mean a 90s Huffy 18-speed I bought from Walmart for $60 without a front suspension. A group of us would carpool out to a lake trail, then ride with reckless abandon, kent electric bike flying over the handlebars multiple times each trip. Without the battery, the Kent Torpedo is easy enough to pedal, though it will definitely feel a bit heavier than a typical kid’s bike.
The last 7 miles turned into an obscure, unmaintained dirt/gravel downhill road covered in sticks, pinecones, sharp rocks, and other precarious tire-popping rubbish (along with a wild turkey I almost ran over). Somehow, we made it the whole 16 miles without a flat and with our brains intact. Everything was going great until I encountered a 11%, 6-degree incline.
But after going to the gym and completing several CrossFit workouts each week, the rides became harder and more tedious. Each hill burned out our already fatigued legs and around the 4-mile mark, we’d head back to the car with stiff, cramped muscles. Students can download the SPIN app on their mobile devices to begin using the service. After a few companies reached out to Kent State, the department of recreational services formed a committee to consider the options.
And at just $498, it’s easier for parents to afford than a typical adult e-bike. Mid-drive motors, on the other hand, are more costly to produce due to their more complicated design. That complication also makes them a bit more touchy, at least for new riders that aren’t used to shifting a bike. The 10.4-amp hour battery promises around 1 hour 20 minutes of run time, or around 25 miles, using the electric assist at varying levels over the course of the ride. One of the challenges of producing a viable e-bike for children is that while the size of the bike may be smaller, the equipment needed to provide motor power doesn’t necessarily scale in the same way. It’s safe to say that not everyone’s entirely on board with the idea of children’s e-bikes.
