This 2-person camping tent is also one of the best quick tents for backpackers or if you’re sending kids off to summer camp. Fully taped seams apply to the rain fly on doors and windows, which feature practical velcro frame attachments. Coleman 8 Person Instant Camping Tent is a very large and tall 2-room tent for 8 people, with an express setup and an incredible price. The Weathertec system combines five specific features for the most reliable weather protection in the Coleman range. The first is Coleman’s weather-resistant polyester fabric, which uses anti-wicking fibers and webbing as a first line of defense. Again, assuming you’re shopping for a car camping tent here, weight and packed size aren’t a major concern when buying a Coleman tent.
The connections and hinges for instant tent poles are often vulnerable to breaking or bending in heavy wind. The Coleman 6 person instant tent claims to be waterproof, but after further investigation, the tent has proven itself faulty. You’ll need to waterproof this tent as best you can yourself—water gets inside the tent easily coleman instant tent and it definitely won’t withstand torrential rain. Sleeping bags do have the added benefit of being easy to tuck away in the 6 person instant tent during the day, so you have more room to walk around and socialize. There’s ample room to pitch a few folding chairs, and even room for you to walk around if you’re under 6 feet tall.
It’s well known that Coleman’s shelters aren’t the lightest or most compact by any stretch, so we recommend just leaning into it and getting the largest tent you can transport and carry. There is a built-in rainfly in the tent that comes with two vents. Once the tent is setup, the rainfly will also be there so you don’t have to spend additional time pulling another rainfly over to cover the tent. I agree with the last reviewer…tent looks good, setup is really nice, but the plastic corner brackets break way too easy, metal ones and this tent would be awesome. I like the weatherctec system, on most Coleman tents seems they stay dry even in heavy rains.
If you decide you’re into camping for the long haul, consider this as your upgrade for the future. The canvas is sturdy and withstands rain, you can stand up in it regardless of height, and it has plenty of ventilation while keeping things private. The tent is easy to set up, but as we explained earlier, not instant. For many campers, bendy poles wouldn’t be a huge issue, but for campers with kids who may bounce around inside or against the tent, it’s more of a worry-factor. Most Coleman tents use steel or similar poles to stand the test of time. However, some users reported that the poles bend or even snap relatively easily.
Coleman claims the Skydome is tested to withstand 35 mph winds, but several owners have reported poles snapping under milder conditions. We’ll also point out that although the Skydome is available in 2, 4, and even 6-person sizes, all models of the tent stick to a single door/single vestibule construction. We’d love to see a back door added (especialy if it comes with a second vestibule in the future), but for now we’re more than happy to live with a single door at this price. After testing and analyzing a multitude of Coleman tents (there are SO MANY), we finally decided that the Coleman Skydome 4 is the best option currently available.
As a bonus, they are also easy to carry around and even shake the dirt out of before folding it up and putting away. He is a dedicated backcountry explorer and a trained Wilderness First Responder. Hopefully, at the end of the article, you will make your decision on buying the tent. I cannot recomend this tent, the ease of putting the tent up stops as soon as these crucial parts break which happens almost instantly. I may just end up making my own parts out of aluminum or steel. coleman ice chest Ditto the last two reviews — the tent is great but Coleman NEEDS to re-engineer the crappy plastic corner pieces. A 10 cent aluminum die cast piece would be far superior to what they currently have. But the only problem is the plastic joints break and are hard to replace.
When looking for a super durable tent, the UPF rating is important. The sun’s rays are not only harmful to our skin but to a tent’s materials as well. Without UPF protection, a tent’s fabric and waterproofing break down faster. However, the nice thing about upgrading to a 10-person tent with a dedicated screened-in porch is that you don’t have to sacrifice any sleeping space. This Core instant cabin tent is similar to the above Core 9-Person Instant Cabin Tent.
If you want more space, convenient entry/exit and the feeling of a hotel room in the outdoors, this would be a better choice than the 6 Person Instant Tent. The two vents at the rainfly can be opened by unzipping the two mesh at the top and then raising the prop to bring the flap up. This can be helpful to prevent condensation happening inside the tent during a cold weather.
Unless you only plan to bring this tent out for the occasional dry weather camping trip, the fact you have to buy a separate rain fly really reduced the value for money of this tent for us. Weight and packed size for the Instant Tent 6 are 24.9lb and 48”x9”x9”, so it’s certainly a hefty tent that will take up a decent amount of space in your trunk. However, it’s very easy to unpack and pack away with respect to its travel bag, which we consider much more valuable. In the setup category, the Coleman Instant Tent 6 is a true standout amongst our 2021 review, and we were quite impressed with what it could do.
